The Human Story historical portrait cover

CONTEXT

History on social media is often either reduced too heavily or presented with unnecessary complexity. The Human Story was created to make historical developments and influential people visually accessible without losing their wider context.

OBJECTIVE

An ongoing editorial format that communicates historical content clearly, recognisably and within a chronological framework. Each post should stand on its own while contributing to a growing narrative of human history.

CONCEPT

The project combines atmospheric historical portraits with clearly structured information slides and timelines. Recurring grids, typography and chapter markers provide orientation, while each era retains its own visual atmosphere.

MY ROLE

I lead the creative direction and design of The Human Story. My work includes topic selection and research, visual concept, art direction, editorial design, the social media system and the project’s consistent development.

DESIGN SYSTEM

Historical portraits create an emotional entry point. For people and periods without authentic photographic records, I develop AI-assisted visual interpretations based on historical research. Existing historical photographs and visual references are restored, enhanced and carefully adapted to the visual system with the help of AI where appropriate. Restrained typography and fixed information hierarchies make names, periods, regions and connections easy to understand. The timeline connects individual posts into one continuous historical narrative.

OUTCOME

The result is a flexible visual system for a growing history education series. It can be applied across people, cultures and eras while forming the creative foundation for a future website and publication.
